An 'emerging reader,' especially an older reader (fourth
grade and older), needs the practice and encouragement that
good literature provides. It can be challenging to find the
book that matches the reader's interests and abilities. It
can be helpful to know ahead of time what kinds of challenges
a book will offer the reader. These reviews have been written
with this in mind. Many of these books are award-winning (Newbery,
etc.) books that are found on many 'recommended reading' lists.
New but older readers have inspired a genre of books of their
own -- "high/low" books that are easy to read but
appeal to older readers. There are fiction and non-fiction
