Springfield to Bradley 5
This picture tells many stories.
Yes, there's a right turn into the
shopping center. Generally I ride just to the right of
the line, so
the occasional vehicle going into the shopping center can
get by on the right, and
the other traffic can sail by to my left. If I ride
*in* the shopping lane, then I get to merge
back - much less pleasant than establishing my predictable
space and using it.
Note the big gap between the car
trying to enter Country Fair and me. Note that if I
were
riding the sidewalk instead, that car would A: be less likely to see me
and
b: if I were coming along now, the car would be smack in my
path.
The traffic light ahead is for a 1-way
street that goes to the interstate. Left turners to CF
take it sharply, so it doesn't behoove me to hug the corner
curb - better to stay back and
in the lane.
When the "walk" signal is going - most
daylight hours I've ever been by, but not at night-
I get a long time with "walk" - and then a good 15-20
seconds with the flashing don't walk,
and then *another* 15-20 seconds with a solid "don't walk."
(Remember those
apartments to the right? Pedestrian & wheelchair
traffic goes from there to shopping.
Seems like the light cycles were designed to accommodate
them.) (scroll down for second picture)
Oh, and remember that those parallel
cracks - though these aren't bad enough to be a
hazard - can be treacherous if you get a wheel caught in
one.
