Sue's revised questions to ask about math concepts

In 2013, I found Marilyn Burns' "Math Reasoning Inventory" online.   The "computerized" version was for sale, but there were questions on the site, and so I made a "do it by hand" adaptation based on the ideas.   I also included some other conceptual questions that I liked.

Hey, it's 2026 and people are asking about this, and by asking DuckDuckgo, I found this page where I'd put things online!  (Well, not exactly, but my issues with navigating HTML and my website are another story).

I have made similar questions from the math reasoning inventory and from an amazing PDF from Katherine Garnett's _Fact Fluency Foundations Guide._

There are tester's pages where the teacher/tester can keep track of how the student responds to each question, and there are student-facing files that I  put in a binder so the student could see one question at a time.  We made manipulatives for putting numbers in order and on number lines. We made them out of wood (I don't remember if the numbers are etched on or just marked with a Sharpie ;)).

These are Word documents. Depending on your browser settings, they might automatically download.   *I* know they're boring Word Documents without macros;)

I didn't get far with any of my postsecondary students. No, I didn't keep torturing them.  As was shown in the research "What Community College Developmental Mathematics Students Understand About Mathematics" by Stigler and Givven, student understanding of numbers in the context of math instruction is very limited. (2026:   That is still true.  )

Tester Pages -- Whole Numbers

Tester Pages -- Algebra and Negative Numbers

Tester Pages -- Fractions (10 questions)

Tester Pages -- Decimals

Student Facing pages -- I only have this for whole numbers.   PLEASE CHECK IT.  I don't have editors.

This is what I have this morning of October 9.

Everything is free to download, share, revise.
