My student *cruised* through the first 18 exercises in the Dragon Naturally Speaking ("nifty fifty-nine" by Barksdale book). She is highly motivated and since it's quiet in here, I could jump in when things were confusing, and make suggestions like reading over all the exercise parts and imagining them before doing htem. Since each exercise is less than a page, usually with four or five little parts, that's easy. I suspect that the "survey the directions" concept (that good students do but other students don't, and have difficulty adding to their repertoire) is something that could be learned in this process, too. Hey, maybe it will help with weight loss and cure cancer, too.
She's having fun reading "Eccentrics" these days at the front desk, but tomorrow she'll get to come back here where she can do the Dragon stuff some more.
Hopping on the bicycle in the middle of this stuff causes ideas to happen too. I'm going to make some Read and WRite GOld highlighting exercises with highlighting that are part of the "learning what a main idea" is progression.
