Where I post assorted thoughts and links relating to learning, specifically learning difficulties, learning disabilities, dyslexia, dysgraphia, "dyscalculia" and all the other reasons people struggle with numbers and math and arithmetic, reading, Orton-Gillingham stuff and ... whatever!

wishin' for that video...

... welp, not really, 'cause it would cause some ego bruising... Oh, maybe. Sometimes bruising is a good thign.
Three students. Same course. Different instructors.
Student One: welp, she's her own self. Working through the stuff, figuring it out. Confidence THE issue.
Students two and three, though...
Student two: doing the five page extra worksheet that his teacher assigns, making them write out every little step.
Student three: teacher gives them worksheet from five years ago, from the old book. Teacher also assigns "do" list of lots of problems, and "turn in" a few evens.

Student two works through the five sheets. I have to help with one... but the next three problems are very similar so he catches on. He's done now.

Student three is frustrated to tears because she wants more help... keeps doing things like add instead of subtract... and I'm having to work eight times as hard filling in the missing instructional pieces, which makes her feel like she needs more help... on less work... when, had she had the same worksheet she'd probably need abotu the same amount of help and wouldn't feel frustrated and stupid.
